Tactile coating thickness measurement of Inconel® coatings on heat exchange tubes
Low-carbon nickel-based alloys such as Inconel® 625 provide exceptionally high corrosion and temperature resistance, which is why they are often used as a protective coating in steel processing. For example, heat exchange tubes in waste incineration plants are coated with Inconel 625 to withstand extreme chemical and thermal stresses. To ensure that the tubes are always adequately protected, regular layer thickness measurements of the Inconel® coating are necessary. Reliable corrosion monitoring helps to ensure that the heavily stressed energy recovery systems do not suffer costly damage, and that efficient steam, electricity, and heat generation can be guaranteed under demanding operating conditions.
